Our Story
Our practice began in 1977, when Dr. Dennis K. Noda opened Dr. Noda Optometry with a simple mission: to provide thoughtful, high-quality eye care while building lasting relationships within the community. For decades, Dr. Noda proudly served generations of patients, earning their trust through compassion, integrity, and clinical excellence.
As of October 2025, Dr. Noda officially retired after a remarkable career. With great care and intention, he entrusted the future of his patients to Dr. Helen Tran Nguyen, ensuring continuity of care and a seamless transition for those who have long called this practice their eye care home.

Today, we move forward as Sunset Optometry—a new name that honors both our history and our future. While the name has changed, our values have not. We remain committed to the same personalized care, attention to detail, and genuine connection that patients have come to expect over the years.

Meet the Doctor
Dr. Helen Tran Nguyen, OD
Dr. Helen Tran Nguyen provides comprehensive, patient-centered eye care with a focus on education, prevention, and long-term visual health. She works closely with patients and referring physicians to ensure coordinated care for both routine vision needs and complex ocular conditions.
Dr. Tran earned her Doctor of Optometry degree, magna cum laude, from Marshall B. Ketchum University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. Her clinical training included rotations at Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Arizona, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Los Angeles, and Family Eye Care in Lemoore, where she developed strong experience in ocular disease management, primary care optometry, and dry eye management.
Fluent in English and Vietnamese and proficient in Spanish, Dr. Tran is proud to serve the diverse Huntington Beach community.
She has volunteered at local vision screenings, supported organizations such as the Braille Institute and Lion’s Club, and previously participated in a medical mission trip to provide eye care to an underserved community in Mexico.
Outside the office, Dr. Tran enjoys staying active through Pilates, traveling, discovering new restaurants, and spending quality time with her husband, family, and friends.
